Course Introduction
This intensive two-day training course provides a practical understanding of IFRS 9 – Financial Instruments. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills required to classify and measure financial assets and liabilities, apply the Expected Credit Loss (ECL) impairment model, account for hedge relationships, and understand at a high level the disclosure requirements under IFRS 7.

● Day 1: Introduction to IFRS 9, Classification and Measurement — scope and objectives, business model assessment, SPPI test and classification decision tree, accounting methods (amortised cost, FVOCI, FVTPL), initial recognition and subsequent measurement, effective interest rate, reclassification and derecognition.
● Day 2: Expected Credit Loss (ECL), Hedge Accounting & Disclosures — three-stage impairment model, Probability of Default/Loss Given Default/Exposure at Default, practical ECL examples, hedging relationship types, hedge effectiveness, IFRS 7 disclosure requirements, implementation challenges.
